WEEKEND ESCAPE TO ATURA ALBURY

Editors Note: We were guests of Atura Albury.

Ah I love a good weekend away. Escaping the city for two days and travelling interstate to a country town is something that I love to do, but don’t do often enough! I find that a quick, overnight weekend away from the city, is just what I needs sometimes, and living in Canberra means that there are SO MANY weekend escape destinations located just a few hours away.

Over the weekend, Mum and I drove 3.5 hours South West of Canberra to Albury, where we were guests of Atura Albury. We were there to experience the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA), Marilyn Monroe Exhibition (more on that in my next post).

This was my first ever visit to Albury. In the past when I have travelled to Melbourne, I have only ever stopped in Albury for a quick 5 minute pitt stop, but have always wanted to explore the town.

Albury is located on the border of NSW and Victoria, and is separated from it’s sister city Wodonga, by the Murray River.

It really is a beautiful city.

Upon travelling down the Main Street (Dean Street), I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of beautiful old buildings that had so much character (this is one aspect that I love about visiting old country towns) and it was great to see the main street had a lively hustle and bustle.

Atura Albury is located right in the heart of Albury, on Dean Street. The former Rydges property has had a welcome facelift, and it was clear that a fresh take on boutique travel has truly landed along the border.

An urban, industrial, art inspired theme fills the hotel, with welcoming bright colours, tones and unique designer touches found all over the property. Upon entering the reception foyer, I instantly felt a breath of high energy, and the thoughtful details were an added touch.

Atura Albury has a courtyard pool, with SUPER cool face chairs (see below), and a great indoor-outdoor seated space that I can imagine would work well in the warmer months. The open plan lobby, bar and restaurant space also integrates quiet, private spaces, as well as bustling areas depending on what you feel like experiencing.

The Roadhouse Bar is Atura Albury’s in-house bar and restaurant. It is set amongst an open plan space, that flows from the reception area, out to the courtyard pool, and it even has a funky pool table! The beverage list literally bursts with flavoursome cocktails and delicious bar snacks, and we found that the bar was a great spot to sit and enjoy a pre dinner beverage.

The Grab & Go, also located in the reception area, is a 24/7 pantry that stocks everything from healthy and not so healthy treats, to toothbrushes and gifts! Mum and I definitely may have been peckish around 3pm and tried a few goodies from here…

Our room was located on the top floor, and had a fantastic view of the entire city. We were pleasantly surprised with the size and layout of the room, and the quirky, unique in-room details made it very different from a normal hotel stay.

Free Wi-Fi everywhere, coffee pod machines in every room and amenities from New York’s Malin + Goetz added to our ‘Atura’ experience. Also, the beds were one of THE MOST comfiest we have both ever slept in – which is always a positive.

Complimentary car parking was an added bonus, and it meant that we were able to keep the car in the car park for the entire stay, as we travelled on foot everywhere.

Atura Albury, you were a welcome surprise for us, and you’re definitely a hotel that we will stay at again.

Your design, unique features and location were big thumbs up for us too!

Fellow Canberran’s – no longer do you have to travel straight to Melbourne non stop. You can now stop in Albury AND have a unique, designer experience. It’s a great way to break up your long haul travel, or even for a weekend getaway, like we did.

Atura Albury is located just steps away from cinemas, bars, restaurants, theatres, shops, galleries and gardens.

We were booked on the Make a Date with Marilyn and MAMA Package which included:

  • Two tickets to ‘Marilyn – Celebrate an American Icon’ Exhibition at the MAMA
  • Overnight Accommodation in a Deluxe King room
  • Breakfast for Two in Roadhouse
  • Two ‘Marilyn Monroe’ cocktails
