Rich with natural beauty, wide open spaces and plenty of colour, Albury is one NSW country town that I have always wanted to visit, and finally did last weekend.
Albury, located on the border of NSW and Victoria, is a beautiful country town that lies along the Murray River. Albury is a twin city with Wodonga, which is also straddles the Murray River in Victoria, and both of these towns provide visitors and locals with plenty of things to see and do.
Being a new visitor to Albury, I was lucky in that I was invited to visit by the lovely team at Atura Albury, to experience the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA), Marilyn Monroe exhibition. I was also given some amazing opportunities to experience a couple of local hip bars and cafes – which I enjoyed very much.
WHERE TO STAY
Atura Albury – Dean Street, Albury
Atura Albury is the place to stay for those who are looking for a little country luxury. I was a guest of Atura, and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The hotel was full of vibrant colours, textures and features and my Mum (travelling partner), and I were pleasantly surprised and blown away when we first stepped foot in the foyer. WHERE TO EAT & DRINK
Canvas Eatery – Dean Street, Albury
This is seriously one cafe that you MUST visit.
Canvas Eatery, who work in association with the MAMA, is located around the back of the Museum. It has a beautiful open plan layout, with dining options both inside and outside (as seen above). As soon as I walked into this gorgeous space, I was drawn straight to the hanging installations on the roof!
Mum and I visited Canvas Eatery for lunch and were also treated to a delicious chocolate dessert, compliments of the chef and his new menu (we can never pass on chocolate tasting opportunities). Mum and I were hosted guests of Canvas, as part of our MAMA and Atura Albury experience.
Boom Boom – AMP Lane, Albury
Boom Boom is both a wine bar and restaurant located in AMP Lane, which had a really cool Melbourne-esq vibe.
Boom Boom is the perfect place for a Friday or Saturday night pre dinner drink or decadent meal, and the menu encompasses real and honest food with a lot of the produce sourced locally.
Boom Boom has a really laid-back and eclectic vibe, with both indoor dining and outdoor seating options. Dinner here was truly an experience that I won’t forget!
Border Wine Room – Dean Street, Albury
If you’re after a light dinner, tapas or wine – then the Border Wine Room will be your destination. Located along Dean Street, this Wine Room is great for catching up with friends, and unwinding from the week. Their menu also changes monthly which is great for regulars.
WHERE TO SHOP
Toff Interiors – AMP Lane, Albury
Located in the heart of Albury’s blossoming AMP Lane, Toff Interiors is an interior design lovers DREAM! I honestly wish I could have bought everything in this store. Toff Interiors features textiles, art, furniture, lighting and home decorating accessories. If you are a lover of fresh, white and clean lines – this is the store for you.
Pour Mes Amis – Volt Lane, Albury
Pour Mes Amis is another great homewares focused store that is located right next door to Toff Interiors. This is one of those stores where you walk in and literally don’t know where to start! They also stock clothes, shoes and jewellery. I bought a super cute mug, but really could of bought the entire store.
The MAMA Shop – Dean Street, Albury
The MAMA shop showcases unique, independently designed homeware and giftware, and reminded me a lot of the National Gallery of Australia Shop back home in Canberra. The MAMA Shop had so many cute and unique gifts, as well as some Marilyn Monroe memorabilia. It’s also a great outlet for local and emerging artists and designers.
