Now I was never one who was highly interested in makeup and beauty, until I started my blog and found a new love for all things foundation, eyeliner and contouring (even though I have never seemed to master it).
Only up until recently, have I taken a proper interest in the beauty and makeup side of the fashion industry, and Sigourney’s workshop – in collaboration with Clinique – was just what I needed to kick start my weekend.
Sigourney Cantelo launched her website Beauticate last year after a long career as a beauty and lifestyle director for various glossy magazines, including Vogue Australia. Beauticate is all about empowering women and teaching them a thing or two about being their most beautiful self. Steve Wright (fashion designer, events manager, fashion tutor at CIT, and Producer of Fashfest), was the host for the morning, and took us on a journey through Sigourney’s incredible career, as well as her up-to-date beauty tips and tricks.
We discussed a lot about tips for keeping your skin safe from the sun, as well as anti ageing and preventative treatments (all the women in the room were listening VERY closely to these). One super important tip that stuck with me from the session was in regards to finding the right sunscreen. We learnt that no matter what the SPF level is in a sunscreen, it must have “broad spectrum”, otherwise it will attract UV rays and burn the skin – who knew!
After a lovely Q&A with Sigourney, we were then treated to a crash course in contouring by one of Clinique’s makeup experts! We were introduced to the new Clinique Chubby Stick range, which is the latest in contouring sculpting. These sticks are designed to glide onto bare skin or foundation to add contour to hollow of the cheeks, along the jawline, or other areas of the face to enhance particular features.
We watched the expert demonstrate on a model, and then had the opportunity to give it a go ourselves. I will admit, I was a little apprehensive – but I do intend practicing at home!
This was a fantastic morning of beauty and advice, presented by the best in the business, and I thank Morris Walker PR and The Canberra Centre for inviting me along. This event was part of a series at The Canberra Centre, with the next being a Health and Wellbeing Workshop with Lola Berry – don’t miss out on this one!
