MY SKIN STORY: PART ONE – A MICRODERMABRASION

Editors Note: I was invited as a guest to experience three skin sessions at Laser Clinics Australia.

I have always been told that I look between 12-16 years old (when I am actually 23). I used to get really annoyed when people would mistake me for a school girl, and I’ve lost count of the amount of times I have been asked for ID!

I guess I can thank my genes for the fact that my skin is in pretty good shape. My parents (Dad is Montenegrin, and Mum is Italian), both have beautiful skin, and I am very lucky that I take after my grandmother and her olive skin.

My skincare routine has changed throughout the years. When I was in my mid to late teens, I was using Proactive to sort out my breakouts and blemished skin. I found that while it worked, Proactive was really drying out my skin, so I was having to lather and lather on the moisturiser.

Recently, I’ve been using Clinque products (Wash, Toner and Moisturiser), and always use rose hip oil every evening. Twice a week I use the Swisse Manuka Honey Detoxifying Face Mask, which is great for purifying and detoxifying the skin. It is perfect for my “combination” skin too.

This is me, fresh faced this morning with no makeup on. My skin looks pretty clear doesn’t it? Well, this is all thanks to Laser Clinics Australia.

I’ve never really had major issues with my skin, except for the occasional break-out, due to stress and hormones throughout my teen years. Occasionally throughout winter I get really dry skin, which is normally caused by being exposed to recycled air in the office, or from having the heaters turned on full blast at home.

However, since my recent summer holiday where I spent ALOT of time in the sun, my face has felt and looked dull, patchy and red – and I have been looking for a way to get that glow back.

It was almost like it was meant to be, because Laser Clinics Australia heard my cry for help, and invited me along to experience a Microdermabrasion at their Westfield Woden clinic. To be honest, I had never heard of a Microdermabrasion before, and also didn’t even know that Laser Clinics Australia even offered skin treatment services!

For those of you (like me), who are/were unaware of what a Microdermabrasion is, it’s a treatment that is designed to improve the texture and quality of your skin. It is fantastic for tackling dull, dry or rough skin, as well as skin with pigmentation and acne. So really, it was right up my alley.

Microdermabrasion’s are generally used in a combination of treatments, and are great for exfoliating your skin and promoting lymphatic draining.

I was super surprised to learn that all the products used were natural, and it’s an extremely safe treatment. I was also super surprised (but not really as I am hopeless at remembering to do this), that I also need to exfoliate my face ALOT more.

Apparently once every 2 months is not enough…who knew?

Sharon, my lovely treatment consultant, explained to me that the more regularly I exfoliate my face (ideally twice a week), the more my skincare products are going to work.

She explained to me that although I am using all the right products for my skin (cleanser, toner, moisturiser and rose hip oil/ serum), these products weren’t doing their job properly because there was a layer of dead skin covering face – EW! So pretty much, my skincare routine was being wasted, because my skin wasn’t prepped properly. Make’s sense doesn’t it?

The Microdermabrasion is designed to remove these dead skin cells, and allow new, healthy skin to shine through. The effects of the Microdermabrasion will generally last a month, but this can vary from person to person. The treatments are gentle, and generally take between 10-20 minutes.

See above how my cheeks were red and bumpy? Post my appointment my face instantly felt smoother, calmer and looked brighter – the redness and bumpy spots were gone!

With my treatment, I was also very lucky to receive three complimentary products from Laser Clinics Australia’s Skinstitut range – which are the products that they use in the Microdermabrasion. These products are designed to maintain that healthy glow on your skin post your treatment and will purify, hydrate and enhance your skin.

Trust me when I say that they honestly work, because they did on my skin, and my skin is known to flair up with products that I am not used to using!

If you’re interested in getting a skin refresh then I recommend that you take advantage of Laser Clinics Australia’s newest promotion- the ‘Glowing Skin Package‘. It includes 3x Skinstitut products of choice, 1x Cleansing Microdermabrasion, 1x Express Microdermabrasion, 1x Enzymatic Micro Peel and 1x Ageless peel. This package WAS $457, but is now an amazing $290! Seriously worth every penny, and the Skinstitut products are all natural, and great for your skin.

Thanks to the team at Laser Clinics Australia – Westfield Woden, and special thanks to Sharon my treatment consultant. See you at my next appointment!

This is Part One of my three part skin series, so keep an eye out for Part Two coming up in a couple of weeks!
