How many times have we heard that we MUST have at least one LBD (Little Black Dress)? The reasoning for this is that the LBD is the perfect little black dress to have in your wardrobe as a garment that you can use as your “go-to” for any particular event or occasion. Hands up if you may even have more than three LBD’s in your wardrobe right now? Guilty…
Now, considering the LBD gets ALL of the attention, have you ever considered the LWD (Little White Dress)?
Being a fan of black since god knows when, I decided recently that sometimes it’s just not practical to be wearing black – especially in summer. So, I invested in a couple of LWD’s that are perfect for warmer weather occasions both work and play, and won’t cause me to be sweating profusely.
Now much like the ballet flat or boyfriend jean, the LWD will forever be in and on trend. Why? Because it is such a simple piece, and is one of the easiest garments to pull off (so long as you aren’t prone to dropping food on yourself, white = stains). The white dress in summer can take you from the desk to the dinner table at a chic restaurant in an instant.
For the office, the LWD is a great alternative to the usual black/navy dress. It’s a great style that can also make you feel like you’re in summer holiday mode, and white is perfect for showing off that fantastic tan you achieved over the holiday break! For the office LWD look I would opt to pair your white dress with nude heels, and pastel accessories so to ensure you don’t overdo it.
For weekend LWD wear, you can definitely be a little more playful. Throw a denim jacket on, or even a fedora and accessorise to the max! When it comes to nights out, this where you can really go all out by pairing the white dress with colour. The LWD provides you with a clean, fresh palette to work with, and we all know that everything goes with white. My one tip, just don’t mix too many colours together – you don’t want to clash.
For this look, I decided to opt for a super sleek finish (and I was dying to pop my laced wedges on). With its gold button detailing and streamlined cut and finish, this Mossman Clothing dress reminds me a lot of one of my favourite designers, Balmain. This blazer style mini dress features a v-neck crossover front and double breasted gold button detailing. What I love is that it has pockets at the front, and is also fully lined which makes it super comfortable and well fitted. For someone like me who lacks in the boob department, this style of dress is great because the cross over feature adds volume to my upper half.
So, have you got an LWD in your wardrobe?
